— The ritual

What happens during a head spa.

We offer a variety of head spa treatments, including basic relaxation, scalp care and sleep-enhancing therapies. Head spa treatments are ideal for scalp oiliness, dryness, flaking, tension — or simply a deeply relaxing experience. A session can include scalp analysis, targeted scalp treatments, massage, hair washing, hydrotherapy (halo water therapy) and deep relaxation — a refreshing and calming experience from start to finish.

The steps in a session

Where a regular shampoo service mainly cleans the hair, a head spa typically begins with a scalp analysis, then moves through exfoliation and targeted treatment, a deep-cleansing wash, and a scalp-and-shoulder massage — sometimes with steam therapy or a hair mask. The hydrotherapy step, a gentle halo of flowing water over the scalp, is the part most guests remember.

How long it takes

Most head spa sessions run 45 to 90 minutes, and some luxury treatments take up to two hours. At D4 Season the menu spans a 30-minute TCM Head Aromatherapy through to 90-minute rituals like Scalp Revitalize Therapy, so you can match the length to the time you have.

— Is it for me

Who a head spa is for.

Head spa treatments suit an oily, dry, flaky or tension-prone scalp — or anyone who simply wants a deeply relaxing experience. They work for straight, wavy, curly, fine, thick, color-treated and chemically treated hair, and each session is customized to your scalp and hair type.

How often to come in

Many guests book a head spa every four to eight weeks, though the right rhythm depends on your scalp condition, hair type and lifestyle. If your scalp tends to get oily or flaky between visits, the shorter end of that range usually feels best.

A note on hair and scalp health

A head spa is a wellness treatment, not a medical one. Keeping the scalp clean and balanced can support how your hair looks and feels, but a head spa is not a treatment for hair loss — if you're noticing significant thinning or shedding, it's worth speaking with a dermatologist or healthcare professional.

— The relaxation

The calm behind a head spa.

Beyond a clean, refreshed scalp, much of a head spa's appeal is simply the chance to slow down. A long scalp-and-shoulder massage, warm water and quiet are a form of self-care, and a head spa sets aside a deliberate hour for exactly that. We treat that calm as part of the experience, not an afterthought.

A scalp massage is itself a form of massage therapy, and the neck and shoulders are where many people carry everyday tension. We don't make medical claims about any of it — the research references near the foot of this page link to neutral background from the NCCIH and others on massage and relaxation. They're general reading, not claims about any specific result.

— Common questions

Asked & answered.

What is a head spa? +

A head spa is a professional scalp and hair treatment that combines deep cleansing, scalp care, massage, and conditioning. Many treatments are inspired by Japanese scalp-care techniques and focus on both scalp health and relaxation.

How is a head spa different from a regular shampoo? +

A regular shampoo service mainly cleans the hair. A head spa typically includes scalp analysis, exfoliation, specialized treatments, massage, and sometimes steam therapy or hair masks.

How long does a head spa session take? +

Most sessions last 45–90 minutes, though some luxury treatments can take up to two hours.

What are the benefits of a head spa? +

Deep scalp cleansing; removal of product buildup and excess oil; improved scalp hydration; relaxation and stress relief; softer, shinier hair; potential reduction in scalp irritation and flaking.

Can a head spa help with hair loss? +

A head spa is not a medical treatment for hair loss. However, maintaining a clean, healthy scalp may support overall hair health. If you're experiencing significant hair thinning or hair loss, consult a dermatologist or healthcare professional.

Is a head spa suitable for all hair types? +

Yes. Most head spas can be customized for straight, wavy, curly, oily, fine, thick, color-treated, or chemically treated hair.

How often should I get a head spa? +

Many people schedule a head spa every 4–8 weeks, though the ideal frequency depends on scalp condition, hair type, lifestyle, and personal preferences.

What can I expect after a head spa? +

Most people notice a cleaner, fresher-feeling scalp; softer, smoother hair; reduced scalp tightness or itchiness; and a sense of relaxation and well-being.

Is a head spa worth it? +

If you enjoy self-care treatments, have scalp concerns, or simply want a relaxing experience, many people find head spas worthwhile for both the wellness and hair-care benefits.
